Women's Soccer Opens Season Against Western Carolina

ROCK HILL, SC— The Winthrop women's soccer team opens the 2016 season this Sunday when it hosts Western Carolina at Eagle Field beginning at 3:00 pm.

Series History
Winthrop is 0-3-1 all-time against Western Carolina. The two teams faced off last season in Cullowhee, NC with the game ending in a draw, 1-1. This will be the second trip to Eagle Field for Western Carolina as it captured a 2-1 win on Aug. 26, 2012 in its first trip.
 
Last Time They Met
The Eagles tied 1-1 with Western Carolina in their 2015 season opener. Winthrop scored first as sophomore JoJo Taylor netted a goal in the 42nd minute. Caroline Duncan started in goal for the opener and finished with six saves. Western Carolina came back to tie it up 1-1 after Sayres McKenna scored in the 82nd minute. After two overtimes, the match came to a draw 1-1.
 
About Opponent
Western Carolina finished 2015 season 8-8-3 with a 4-4-1 in the Southern Conference. They made it to the SoCON Championships against UNC Greensboro but came up short 3-1.
