CLINTON, SC—The Winthrop Eagles' baseball team dropped Game 2 of the weekend series against the Presbyterian Blue Hose 2-1 at the PC Baseball Complex Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, Winthrop is now 16-15 (4-4) on the season, while Presbyterian improves to 17-13 (4-4).
Presbyterian struck first scoring a run in the bottom of the first off of one hit and two errors from the Eagles.
The Eagles tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the 5th when Babe Thomas hit a sacrifice fly to score Roger Gonzalez who had walked earlier in the inning.
The Blue Hose' W. Jackson hit a game wining double in the bottom of the 8th to score Weyenberg.
Mark Lowrie was 3 for 4 on the afternoon and is now hitting .367 on the season. Roger Gonzalez was 1 for 3 scoring one run.
Starting pitcher Zach Sightler was creditied with the loss and is now 4-2 on the season with a 3.57 ERA. Sightler pitched 7.1 innings striking out seven batters along the way.
Winthrop will look to take one game out of the weekend series in Game 3 against Presbyterian Sunday April, 10. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm at the PC Baseball Complex.
