ROCK HILL, SC— Winthrop softball wrapped up its weekend at the Winthrop Invitational with an 8-0 loss to #16/17 Kentucky, Sunday morning at Terry Field.
Winthrop is now 8-11 and will turn its focus to Wednesday, Mar. 9 when it hosts UNC Wilmington for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. Kentucky improves to 18-3 on the year.
The Wildcats were the home team for this matchup and were leading 1-0 after two innings when they posted four runs in the third and three more in the fourth.
Winthrop's
Dallas King made the start in the circle as she allowed five runs (one earned) on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts as she falls to 4-4 on the year.
In the third inning the Wildcats made the Eagles pay for a couple of fielding errors to turn a 2-0 game into a 5-0 lead.
Kelsey Nunley tossed a complete game for Kentucky allowing no runs on two hits with two walks and five strikeouts to improve to 7-1.
Leah Young reached base for the ninth straight game, which is tied for the second longest streak by an Eagle this season.
