Lacrosse Heads to Liberty Wednesday, Closing Out Four-Game Road Stretch

ROCK HILL, SC – Winthrop lacrosse will return to the field on Wednesday, closing out a four-game road stretch with a 4 p.m. game against the Liberty Flames.

The Eagles (10-2, 1-0) are coming off a dominating performance in their first conference contest of the season, downing Radford 26-5.  Danielle Ellis recorded a season-high nine points with five goals and four assists.  Krista Frowein scored a career-high seven goals while Shannon Gallagher added five goals and two assists.

Liberty has struggled this season and enters Wednesday's contest with a 1-8 record, having dropped six straight.  The Flames contest against Winthrop will be their first Big South game of the season.

The Flames have scored an average of only 7.56 goals per game this season while allowing 14.78.  Liberty is a very physical squad having committed an average of 36 fouls per game this season while receiving the second-most yellow cards in the NCAA and is one of only three teams in Division I to receive a red card this year.

Only three Liberty players have totaled more than 10 goals this season.  Kallie Britton leads the Flames with 15 goals while Callie Francis and Kayla Foster have netted 11 and 10 goals respectively.  In goal for Liberty Katherine Widrick and Aubrie Tarres have each seen significant time but Widrick has earned seven of the team's nine decisions including the team's only victory.  Both goalies have a higher than 14 goals-per-game average.

The Eagles will be the Big South team with the off day during the league's Saturday play date and will next play Wednesday, April 6 at home against Presbyterian at 4 p.m.
