Game Recap: Lacrosse |

Eagle Lacrosse Downs Army 13-5 Saturday; Hosts Bryant at 6 p.m.

ROCK HILL, SCKristen Shriver scored four goals Saturday and the Eagle defense limited Army to only six shots on goal as the Winthrop lacrosse team downed the Black Knights 13-5.

The Eagles remain perfect on the season at 8-0 and will have some short rest as they host Bryant at 6 p.m.  Army's record fell to 3-3 on the season.

In a low-scoring first half, the Eagles were able to grab the first three goals, going up 3-0 with 14:43 on the clock.  Alexis Linhardt, Abigail Blevins and Kristen Shriver each netted goals for Winthrop.

The Eagles defense limited Army to only two shots in the first half as the Black Knights netted one goal with 8:29 left in the half.  Winthrop closed the half with four straight goals as Katie Clark and Allie Yeager got on the score sheet while Blevins and Linhardt each netted another.

The two sides traded the first four goals of the second half as Shriver picked up both for the Eagles and Winthrop continued to lead by six at 9-3 with 21:29 on the clock.  The Eagles then scored the next three to take a 12-3 edge with just over five minutes remaining.  Danielle Ellis capped off the Eagle scoring with just over a minute remaining for the victory.

Kristen Shriver finished with four goals on the game to lead the Eagles, all coming on free-position attempts, while Alexis Linhardt netted three and Abigail Blevins finished with two and two assists.  Katherine Judge led Winthrop with five draw controls while Hayley Krause corralled four. 

Shannon Gallagher led the team with six caused turnovers while five other Eagles forced two turnovers apiece.  Alaina Girani picked up the victory, allowing three goals and making three saves.
