ROCK HILL, SC – As the Big South volleyball regular season enters its final two weeks the Eagles will head to Charleston Southern for a Saturday contest looking to extend their three-match winning streak and its hopes for a tournament berth.
On October 25, Winthrop downed the Buccaneers in five sets at the Winthrop Coliseum which sparked this three-match winning stretch. The Eagles downed Campbell and High Point last weekend.
The top six teams qualify for the conference tournament this year and Winthrop currently sits in seventh place in the conference standings with a 3-9 mark in the Big South. Charleston Southern is currently fifth at 7-5 in conference and UNC Asheville is 5-8 and in sixth place. The Eagles can still qualify for the conference tournament but must keep up their winning ways over their last four contests while also getting some additional help.
Charleston Southern snapped a four-match losing skid on Tuesday with a 3-1 victory over Presbyterian. The Buccaneers will host Gardner-Webb on Friday and can solidify their spot in the conference tournament with one win in any of their last four matches.
Winthrop will finish off the regular season with three matches next week, starting with a Tuesday road contest at Gardner-Webb followed by home games against Presbyterian and UNC Asheville next Thursday and Saturday.
