BUIES CREEK, NC – The Winthrop women's soccer team came up just short as its lost to Campbell 3-2 in double OT Friday afternoon at Buies Creek.
The Eagles are now 3-8 (0-2-1 BSC) overall while Campbell improves to 8-6 (3-2 BSC) and improves its all-time record against Winthrop to 4-5-0.
Winthrop will travel to Lynchburg, VA on Wednesday Oct. 12th to face Liberty beginning at 4 p.m. Winthrop's game against Charleston Southern has been rescheduled for October 20th beginning at 6 p.m. on Eagle Field.
The Camels started off quick when Kine Thorsvik scored in the 3rd minute of the game. Christine Kindt followed in the 32nd minute when she scored from 19-yards out. Winthrop got on the board before half when Courtney Mcleod chipped it in from 5-yards out to make it 2-1 at half.
Winthrop Olivia Costello scored in the 83rd minute when she ripped it from the left side to the back of the net to tie it 2-2. Campbell scored in the 103rd minute when Christine Kindt took the blocked shot and deflect it into the net.
The Eagles fouled 19 times as Campbell fouled only seven. The Camels outshoot Winthrop 17 to 5, and shots on goal were nine to four. Winthrop's goalkeepers Karly Gustafson and Caroline Duncan finished with a combined six saves as Campbell's goalkeeper Natalya Marcove finished with two saves.
