ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop women's soccer team dropped its final game of the season 1-0 to High Point on Tuesday night at Eagle Field as it failed to qualify for the Big South Conference Championship tournament.
The Eagles ended the season with a 4-12-1 (1-7-1 BSC) record to finish ninth in the conference standings. High Point improves to 11-5-2 (7-1-1 BSC).
In a game that saw HPU dominate the statistics, the teams battled to a scoreless tie at halftime as Winthrop could not manage a single shot while High Point made 12 shots, including six on goal that resulted in saves by Eagle goalkeeper Caroline Duncan.
Winthrop got its first shot in the 48th minute, one of only four they had in the game. High Point's Bri Jean-Charles put the Panthers on the board in the 63rd minute with a shot from 20-yards out to the lower left of the goal and left it to their defense to hold the Eagles scoreless.
Winthrop finished the season with 18 goals, 85 shots on goal, 14 assists, and 80 saves.
