ROCK HILL, SC – In search of its first conference victory, the Winthrop volleyball team will host Liberty and Radford this weekend at the Winthrop Coliseum.
The Eagles are coming off a tough five-set loss to Presbyterian last Saturday night while also falling in four sets to UNC Asheville Friday evening.
Winthrop is currently 9-14 overall and 0-7 in the Big South. The seven-match conference losing streak is the longest for the volleyball program since the team went 0-9 in conference play in 1993.
Liberty comes to the Winthrop Coliseum for a 7 p.m. match on Friday. The Flames are 6-2 in conference play and 11-9 overall this year. Earlier this season the Eagles dropped a five-set match on the Flames home court. After dropping the first two sets, Winthrop rallied to force a fifth set but fell 15-12. Four Eagles tallied double-digit kills in the loss.
Saturday at 4 p.m. the Eagles will host the Radford Highlanders who defeated Winthrop in straight sets earlier this season. In the first meeting, Sammie-Jo Ah-Hong and Brianna Gray each tallied double-digit kills.
Following the weekend double dip, the Eagles will continue at home on Tuesday when they host Charleston Southern for a 7 p.m. contest against the Buccaneers.
