ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop volleyball team will look to ride some momentum from its Wednesday victory as the Eagles hit the road for conference contests at UNC Asheville and Presbyterian this weekend.
Winthrop snapped a four-match losing skid Wednesday night with a 3-0 victory over North Carolina Central. The Eagles are now 9-12 on the year but winless in conference at 0-5.
Friday evening the Eagles will head to Asheville, NC for a 7 p.m. contest against the Bulldogs. Asheville is 7-10 on the year with a 1-5 mark in the Big South. The Bulldogs are coming off a four-set loss to Charleston Southern Tuesday evening. Cara Guthrie has led Asheville with 212 kills this season, an average of 3.42 per set. Kailey Hackett and Carter Kennedy have shared time at the setter position.
Saturday, the Eagles will face Presbyterian at 4 p.m. in Clinton, SC. The Blue Hose are 1-3 in conference and 3-15 overall. Presbyterian's sole conference victory came in a three-set sweep of Gardner-Webb on Sept. 30. Sierra Davis leads the Blue Hose offensively, averaging 3.15 kills per set. Sara Rogers is the team's primary setter with more than nine assists per set.
Following the weekend road trip, the Eagles will return to the Winthrop Coliseum on Friday, Oct. 21 to host the Radford Highlanders.
