DURHAM, NC -- The Winthrop volleyball team won its fourth straight match Tuesday with a 3-0 sweep of NC central as Winthrop closed outs its 11-game road stretch to start the season.

Winthrop fell behind early in the opening set but battled back to tie the set at 10-10.  Winthrop took its first lead at 12-11, going on a 6-1 run en route to taking the first set 25-20.

Winthrop never trailed in the second and third sets.  Winthrop dominated the second set, winning 25-18.  The two sides battled a bit more in the third set.  The two teams were tied 12-12 but a 5-1 run gave Winthrop a 17-13 lead, taking the third set 25-21.

Annelies Dokter led Winthrop with 11 kills while Hjordis Eiriksdottir finished with eight.  Madilyn McCarty totaled 22 assists and Nikki Drost and Carlie Skelton each totaled 12 digs.

Winthrop returns home for the first time this season Friday and Saturday to host the Winthrop Invitational, welcoming Davidson, Murray State and West Virginia to the Winthrop Coliseum.
