Box Score ROCK HILL, SC—The Winthrop Lady Eagles' soccer squad was unable to hold off the East Tennessee State Bucs Tuesday night at Eagle Field resulting in a 2-1 loss.
The first half began with East Tennessee State controlling possession and getting their chances on goal.
Karly Gustafson came up with two big saves in the first 10 minutes of play. However in the 18
th minute, Molly Collinson was able to sneak one past her off an assist by Irina Brutsch.
The Eagles responded well with three shots in the remainder of the first half. East Tennessee State's goalkeeper Jasmine Elliott was able to keep the score at 1-0 making her first save of the match.
Shortly after the second half started, Winthrop's
Megan David was able to fire off a pair of shots, forcing Elliott to make another save. East Tennessee State then went on the attack, pressing for a second goal, getting many shot attempts off.
With five minutes remaining all things pointed to a 1-0 victory for East Tennessee State. However, in the 86
th minute the Lady Eagles were able to get one in the box and
Taylor Coleman assisted
Samantha Prytulak for a late equalizer. It appeared that Prytulak had forced overtime in back to back matches until Simona Koren scored in the 88
th minute off an assist by Collinson to clinch the victory, 2-1 for East Tennessee State.
Winthrop, 2-3-1, will look to respond from this loss when the Lady Eagles host The Citadel this Friday, Sept. 18 at Eagle Field beginning at 6:00 pm.
