ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop volleyball team returns to the Winthrop Coliseum this weekend to host Gardner-Webb and UNC Asheville, seeking two crucial Big South victories as the Eagles look to improve their conference position.

Winthrop struggled in its final two road games of the season last weekend. The Eagles dropped a three set match to Coastal Carolina on Friday and a four-set match to Charleston Southern on Saturday.
ABOUT GARDNER-WEBB
Gardner-Webb enters the weekend with 9-18 overall record and a 3-7 mark in the Big South. The Bulldogs sit only one game behind the Eagles in the conference standings and defeated the Eagles in their first matchup this year. Gardner-Webb has dropped four straight after having previously won five in a row. Tyra Montour and Kaelyn Dyson have been the offensive standouts for the Bulldogs totaling 202 and 197 kills respectively. Gardner-Webb leads the Big South in blocking, averaging 2.38 blocks per set and Sydney Marshall leads the conference individually, averaging 1.25 blocks per set.
ABOUT UNC ASHEVILLE
Asheville enters the weekend in fourth place in the conference with a 5-5 mark and a 12-10 overall record. The Bulldogs will play at Presbyterian on Friday. The Eagles pulled out a four-set victory over the Bulldogs earlier this season. Christine Lakatos leads the team offensively, averaging 2.48 kills pet set. Asheville is ranked third in the conference in hitting percentage with a .214 average this season with a .229 average in conference-only matches.
