Box Score CONWAY, SC – The Winthrop volleyball team fell in straight sets Friday evening to the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers on the road in Big South action.
Winthrop fell to 4-6 in the conference and 9-16 overall with the loss while Coastal remained undefeated in the Big South at 10-0 and improved to 18-4 overall.
The Eagles struggled offensively, hitting only .048 and totaling on 24 kills. Nikki Drost and Annelies Dokter led the Eagles with six kills each. Madilyn McCarty finished with 16 assists and Mallary McFadden totaled 10 digs.
Winthrop never led over the first two sets, falling 25-15 and 25-10. The Eagles led early and into the middle of the third set before Coastal used a 7-0 to take an 18-13 lead that they didn't relinquish, winning 25-19.
The Eagles will look to get back in the win column on Saturday when they head to Charleston Southern for a 4 p.m. contest against the Buccaneers.
