Eagles Return Home to Host Radford and Liberty In Crucial Big South Contests This Weekend

ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop volleyball team returns to the Winthrop Coliseum this weekend for the first time in nearly a month to continue conference play, hosting Radford Friday and Liberty Saturday.

The Eagles had a tough go of it last weekend as Winthrop fell on the road to High Point in four sets and Campbell in five sets.

ABOUT RADFORD

Radford has struggled in conference this season, posting only a 2-5 record in the Big South and a 9-11 record overall.  The Highlanders are coming off two home losses last weekend to Coastal Carolina and Charleston Southern.  Savanna Burton and Megan Short have been Radford's two biggest contributors on offense, each totaling more than 200 kills this season.  Haley Kleespies is the team's primary setter, averaging better than 10 assists per set.

ABOUT LIBERTY

Liberty comes into the weekend with a 10-10 overall record and a 5-2 mark in the conference and will play at Presbyterian on Friday evening.  The Flames downed Charleston Southern in four sets and were swept by Coastal Carolina last weekend.  Caroline Douglas leads Liberty offensively, totaling 183 kills this season while Jade Vorster has also tallied 162.  Anna Willey is the team's primary setter, averaging just shy of 10 assists per set. 

SERIES HISTORIES

The Eagles and Highlanders have played an extremely close series, with Radford holding only a one game edge, 30-29, all-time against Winthrop.  The Eagles have not found as much success against Liberty, trailing in the series against the Flames 28-18.

UP NEXT

Winthrop hits the road to start its second round of divisional play next weekend.  The Eagles play at Coastal Carolina Friday and Charleston Southern Saturday.  It is the final two road games of the regular season for the Eagles.
