Women's Soccer Team Falls 3-0 to Liberty Wednesday Night

Box Score
Rock Hill, SC—The Winthrop Lady Eagles' soccer squad dropped a 3-0 decision to Liberty Wednesday night at Eagle Field.

Despite having 11 shots throughout the contest, Winthrop failed to find the back of the net.  Both teams traded shots and possession during the first half until Liberty scored two quick goals before halftime.  The Flames' Devon Jones connected on a rebound off a shot from Jordan Kestel to give Liberty a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute.  Moments later Liberty was able to extend the lead to 2-0 when Kestel netted one herself, again off of a rebound, this time from Jennifer Knoebel in the 43rd minute.

The Lady Eagles came out of the locker room very aggressive in the second half looking to put one on the board.  JoJo Taylor sent one towards goal in the 47th minute but the shot was stopped by Liberty's Tori Collar.  In the 59th minute a ball was crossed into the box for Olivia Costello but she flicked the ball just wide of the goal.

Winthrop continued to apply pressure attempting to cut the lead.  However, in the 80th minute the Flames were able to seal the match when Lauren Weygandt sent one past Caroline Duncan for a 3-0 lead.  Duncan finished with eight saves on the night.

Winthrop, 5-8-2 (2-5-1 BSC), will return to action this Saturday night when they travel to face Radford.  Start time is set for 6:00 pm.
