CONWAY, SC
—Big South Conference leading scorer AJ Jordan and Jas Adams combined for 50 points as Coastal Carolina handed the Winthrop women's basketball team an 81-62 loss on Saturday at the HTC Center.

The three-point shot proved to be the difference as Winthrop lost its third straight game, all on the road, and saw its four-game winning streak against Coastal come to an end.  The Eagles are now 8-9 overall and 4-4 in league play while the Chanticleers improve to 9-8 and 3-5.

Coastal connected on nine of 16 shots from behind the arc while Winthrop was able to knock down just three of 20 three balls.

Jordan and Adams scored 25 points each to lead four Coastal players in double figures.  For Adams, who connected on 4 of 6 three-pointers, it was a career high.

Winthrop was led by Erica Williams with 16 points and 11 rebounds as she recorded her eighth double-double of the season, but she scored 12 of those points in the first half and did not score in the second half until less than two minutes remained and the Eagles trailed by 23 points.  Schaquilla Nunn and Samiya Wright also reached double figures with 10 points each.  All of Nunn's points came in the second half.  She was whistled for her second foul less than eight minutes into the game and sat out the final 12:10.  Aliyah Kilpatrick missed her second straight game with a hamstring injury.

When Nunn went to the bench, Coastal held a 14-8 lead.  A 3-pointer by Wright with 8:26 left in the first half tied the game at 18-18. Coastal's Jordan answered with a 15 footer from the right baseline to give her team the lead for good at 20-18 with 7:40 left in the period.

The Eagles trailed by one point at 30-29 with 2:23 remaining after Naima Jackson scored on a follow shot, but the Chanticleers closed out the half with a 9-1 run to take a 39-30 lead at intermission.  After falling behind by 47-34 in the opening minutes of the second half, Winthrop closed to within seven points with a 6-0 run.  Cii Cii Buford drove for a layup, Nunn scored her first points on a layup with 14:30 left in the game and Wright followed a miss to make it a 47-40 game, but from that point on, the Eagles were outscored 27-16 over the next eight minutes to fall behind 74-56.

Coastal claimed its biggest lead of 23 points at 81-58 with 1:36 left in the game.  The 81 points equal the most given up earlier this season in a loss at Tennessee.

Winthrop will return home on Tuesday to face league-leading Liberty at 7 p.m.
