Box Score www.winthropphotos.comBox ScoreCharlotte, NC- The Winthrop women's soccer team couldn't break down the Charlotte defense as they fell to the 49ers 4-0 on Wednesday night. The Lady Eagles fall to 3-2 on the year while Charlotte improved to 2-3-1 this year.
The Lady Eagles finished the night with 11 shots, led by
Krystyna Freda (4) and
Grace Radler (3).
Amelia Henderson got her first start of the year, making 10 saves and giving up four goals before
Caroline Duncan came in and nabbed six saves.
Charlotte took the lead in the 8th minute as Martha Thomas' head connected on a corner kick from Amanda Jones. The 49ers kept up the pressure, hitting the post just two minutes later, before doubling their lead in the 24th minute as Rebecca Beatty blasted a ball from 25 yards out past Henderson.
The action subsided for thirty minutes until the 49ers scored two goals just six minutes apart in the 57th and 63rd minute. Thomas earned an assist for setting up Perri Bonner for her 18 yard goal before netting her second goal of the night, putting away another cross, this time from Tori Fubara.
Winthrop returns home to host South Carolina State at 1:00 p.m. before the men's game at 6:00 p.m.
