Box Score ROCK HILL, SC- The Winthrop women's soccer team couldn't bounce back from going down early as they dropped its season opener 2-0 at Davidson.
After getting the first two shots on goal, Winthrop went down in the 21
st minute after junior Vicky Bruce converted a penalty kick past goalkeeper
Caroline Duncan.
Davidson made it 2-0 just five minutes later, when Kate Joss ran onto to a long ball and hit a shot into the top corner of the net.
Winthrop didn't go down without a fight, tallying six shots in the second half but could not put one past Davidson's Rachel Locke who earned four saves on the night. Freshman Courtney McLoed led the team in shots with two, with six other Lady Eagles registering one. Duncan had a career high four saves on the night.
The Lady Eagles return to Rock Hill for their home opener Sunday against Clemson at 6:00 p.m at Eagle Field.
