Lacrosse Travels To Davidson Friday, Hosts Longwood Sunday To Open Conference Schedule

ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop lacrosse team will begin its conference schedule this weekend as the Eagles travel to Davidson Friday before hosting Longwood on Sunday.

Winthrop (3-7) is coming off a tough 19-11 loss to Jacksonville last Saturday where the Eagles played without four of their starters, but all are expected to return for the weekend.

Jenna Kasmarik continues to lead the team with 32 goals while Shannon Gallagher has netted 17 to go along with her 11 assists.  Against the Dolphins the Eagles got production across its lineup with seven people scoring and four of them tallying two goals each.

Davidson enters the 7 p.m. contest Friday with a 4-5 overall record and is coming off a 10-9 victory over Old Dominion on Tuesday.  The Eagles and Wildcats have had two common opponents this season.  Both teams fell to San Diego State and both defeated St. Francis.

Ann Fucigna and Emma Sissman lead the Wildcats offensively.  Fucigna, the current Big South Offensive Player of the Week, leads the team in points with 25 on 16 goals and nine assists.  Sissman leads the team in scoring with 21 goals this season.  Katy Boyle has played every minute in net this year for the Wildcats.  She averages 7.6 saves per game while allowing just over 10 goals per contest.

Longwood comes to Eagle Field on Sunday for a noon contest.  The Lancers will play their first conference contest of the season Friday at Coastal Carolina.  Longwood is currently 3-7 overall with a 0-5 mark on the road. 

The Lancers have four players with 18 or more goals this season.  Kate McHugh leads the team with 22 goals while Kacey Norwood has 21 goals to go along with 14 assists.  Lauren Prasnicki leads the Lancers with 23 assists and has also tallied 10 goals.  Christian Acker has played every game for Longwood and averages 8.2 saves per game while allowing 13.6 goals per contest.

Next week the Eagles will continue their conference slate with a road game at Campbell Friday before hosting the reigning Big South champions, High Point, Sunday.
