ROCK HILL, SC- The Winthrop women's soccer team will play its last regular season match of the 2014 season against Presbyterian College on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. at Edens Field. The Lady Eagles can advance to the 2014 Big South Conference Tournament with a win. Winthrop leads the all-time series between the two teams, 7-1.
Winthrop (7-8-1, 3-5-1 Big South) is hoping to secure a spot in the Big South conference tournament for the 12
th straight season. They currently sit at the number 8 spot in conference rankings with 10 points, with the possibility of finishing as high as sixth. The Lady Eagles' offense still sits atop the conference rankings in goals (35) and points (97), while falling second to top ranked Liberty in assists (29).
Krystyna Freda still leads the Big South in goals (14), points (31) and shots per game (5.77) despite not being able to find the back of the net in the last three contests.
The Blue Hose (3-9-3, 0-6-3 Big South) cannot qualify for the conference tournament falling in last place in Big South rankings. Freshman Sarah Yoss has six of Presbyterian's 17 goals, and is tied for 8
th in the conference in goals. Goalkeeper Sydney Fontenot has started 13 games, making 64 saves, and earned a goals against average of 1.64.
Head coach Brian Purcell is in his 26
th with his alma mater, where he has posted an overall record of 244-196-22.
