ROCK HILL, SC
- A late goal from junior Megan David secured a 1-0 victory over Radford for the Winthrop women's soccer team on Saturday's "Senior Day." The Eagles improve to 7-8-1 on the year and 3-5-1 in the Big South while Radford drops to 7-9-2 and 4-5-1 in conference action.

David's goal came in the 75th minute as she controlled a ball in the box sent in from half field by senior Ashley Herndon. The ball went over the Radford defense and David collected it on the right side of the field and hit it low past goalkeeper Sydney Chervenic from five yards out.

Winthrop dominated the first half, outshooting the Highlanders 5-2. Herndon had the first good chance hitting a shot from half field but Chervenic got her fingertips to the ball and hit it over the crossbar. Ten minutes later, Herndon played a ball over the top to Krystyna Freda and Chervenic mistimed it, going over her head, but it bounced just wide of the open goal. The Lady Eagles defense was difficult to penetrate, holding the Highlanders to just one shot on goal and Amelia Henderson handled it easily.

The Lady Eagles kept the pressure on the Highlanders' defense in the second half, outshooting Radford 6-2 in the first ten minutes.

Despite being down 1-0 with 15 minutes left, Radford kept battling, almost leveling the game with a shot from Jordan Lundin that hit off the crossbar. The Highlanders kept hitting balls into the box but the Winthrop defense held on for the win.

The Lady Eagles play its last match of the regular season on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at Presbyterian College. Winthrop can secure a spot in the 2014 Big South Conference Tournament with a win.
