The Lady Eagles fall to 6-8-1 this season and 2-5-1 in the conference while Liberty remains unbeaten in the conference play with a 7-01 Big South record and an 11-4-1 record overall.
Liberty had its best opportunity of the 1
st half as one of its shots went off the post and Madison Kauzlarich had a wide open net to shoot one but
Amelia Henderson got up and made a fantastic save to keep the score level. As both teams traded possession for the remainder of the half,
Grace Radler had Winthrop's best chance, hitting a left footed shot from 18 yards out but goalkeeper Holly Van Noord was able to get her finger tips to it to make the save and the game went into halftime level with eight shots a piece.
Samantha Prytulak opened scoring with a goal just 14 seconds into the second half as she ran onto a ball from
Devin Puckett and slotted it past Van Noord. This is the third game in a row Prytulak has scored.
Krystyna Freda almost made it 2-0 in the 54
th minute, running on to a through ball with the closest Liberty defender two steps behind her, but Van Noord got a hand onto the ball to push Freda out wide and give the defense time to recover.
Liberty answered back with a goal in the 64
th minute by Alanna Dunkle, who bent a shot from 18 yards out into the upper far post, out of the reach of Henderson.
Taylor Walton had an opportunity to regain the lead in the 72
nd minute off of a corner as Van Noord was pulled out of position but her shot went just wide of the goal.
The Lady Flames made it 2-1 after countering on a free kick from Freda. The Liberty offense outnumbered the Winthrop defense 4-2 and Crystal Elmers put a low shot past Henderson into the side netting.
Liberty tacked on an insurance goal in the 78
th minute, a copy of Dunkle's goal but this time from Kauzlarich.
Prytulak almost gave Winthrop hope with under five minutes left but her shot hit the crossbar.
The Lady Eagles return home for Senior Day this Saturday as they host Radford at 2:00 p.m.
