Women's Soccer Falls Short 3-2 at Campbell

Buies Creek, NC- Despite battling back from an early deficit, the Winthrop women's soccer team came up short as they fell to Campbell 3-2 on Saturday night. The Lady Eagles drop to 6-7-1 and 2-4-1 in conference match-ups while Campbell improves to 6-6-3 and 3-1-2 in the Big South.

Winthrop had a rough start giving up two goals in the first minute of play, both coming from sophomore Nicole Connolly. Connolly's first goal came just 21 seconds into the match, dribbling through the Winthrop defense before hitting a shot from 18 yards out past goalkeeper Amelia Henderson. Connolly struck just 34 seconds later, as her cross was deflected by a Winthrop defender and into the net.

The Lady Eagles fought back and cut the lead in half in the 21st minute after Tori Davis converted a penalty kick after a foul by Campbell inside the box.

Red-shirt junior Ashley Clark got what would be the game winner just a minute later, hitting a shot inside the 18 yard box.

Sophomore Samantha Prytulak, put Winthrop back in the game with her second goal of the week, hitting a shot far post past goalkeeper Alexis Connors after receiving a pass from Taylor Walton.
Winthrop outshot the Fighting Camels 9-8, with 5 being on goal.

Henderson played all 90 minutes, making one save, while her counterpart Connors made three.

The Eagles will travel to take on top ranked Liberty on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
