ROCK HILL, SC- The Winthrop women's soccer team is looking to go 2-0
on Tuesday night as the Lady Eagles host Anderson University on Eagle Field beginning at 7: 00 p.m.
Winthrop is coming off a season-opening 1-0 win against Wofford last Friday night while Anderson will be playing its first game of the season.
Krystyna Freda (Somerset, NJ) has the Eagles' lone goal of the season and also leads the team in shots with seven.
Olivia Costello (Raleigh, NC) and
Baley Jackson (Savannah, GA) join Freda with one shot on goal each. Goalkeeper
Amelia Henderson (Mt. Pleasant, SC) played all 90 minutes for Winthrop and earned her first shutout on the year while making four saves.
Anderson kicks off its season after finishing last year 7-7-3. The Trojans will rely heavily on their seniors to lead a team of 17 newcomers. Senior Forward Krystal Gloss and All- South Atlantic Conference First Team honoree returns as the leading scorer with eight goals and seven assists last season. Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Neipp has taken her place between the posts with 52 appearances for the Trojans and a career goals against average of 1.22. Neipp also earned All- Conference honors last year with a spot on the second team.
Head Coach Samar Azem enters into her third season with Anderson where she is currently 16-17-4.
This game will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools..
