Schoenfeldt Named To Capital One Academic All-America Division I Softball Team

Schoenfeldt Crushes One Of Her Record 17 HRs In 2013
ROCK HILL, SC—Winthrop softball standout Chelsey Schoenfeldt has capped her playing career by being named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Division I Softball Third Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Schoenfeldt, a native of Golden Lake, Ontario, has compiled a 3.513 grade point average while majoring in exercise science.  She will graduate next December. Schoenfeldt, who made the team as a designated player, is the only softball player from a Big South Conference member school to be selected on the first, second or third teams.  A total of 33 players (11 on each team) were honored.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 18,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.

The three-time all-conference selection set career-highs in runs (36), home runs (17), RBI (59), total bases (117), slugging percentage (.722), walks (34), and on-base percentage (.475). She broke the school's single-season home run record of 11 set by Janiva Willis and Kjersti Johnson in 2004. She also passed Willis for the most home runs in a career at Winthrop with 33.  Schoenfeldt also made 19 pitching appearances and finished the year with a 5-9 record and a 4.61 earned run average.
