Stollings Adds JUCO Transfer Christina Solmon For 2012-13

Stollings Adds Sixth Player For 2012-13 Roster

ROCK HILL, SC— Winthrop women's head basketball coach Marlene Stollings announced the addition of Christina Solmon as she will be joining the Eagles for the 2012-13 season.

Solmon, a 6-2 post player, spent the last two seasons at Tallahassee Community College in Tallahassee, FL., which is part of the strong Panhandle Conference.

The Waltham Park, Jamaica native has a lot of experience throughout her career through Netball.

“Christina is an athletic, long post player who finishes well at the basket,” said Stollings. “She will add quickness, agility and the ability to aggressively rebound. Christina's best basketball is in front of her and we are excited about the immediate contributions she will make at the post position.”

In her two years at Tallahassee C.C., Solmon earned all-conference honors. In 2010-11, Solmon was named to the Honorable Mention Team and earned second team honors this past season.

She is a well-traveled player as her international competition includes U-16 Netball Championship, World Senior Netball Championship, and World Youth Netball Championship. She was a member of the U-16 Netball Championship Gold Medal team in 2005 and the Silver Medal Team from the 2006 U-16 Netball Championship. In 2007 she was a member of the Bronze Medal team at the World Senior Netball Championship and captained the U-21 World Youth Netball Championship in 2009 in which the team earned a Bronze Medal.

Solmon joins Shaquilla Nunn, Ashley Porter, Aliyah Kilpatrick, Juliette Love and Zoe Vernon as newcomers to the roster in 2012-13. Pamela Decheva, who is transferring from the University of South Carolina, will not compete until 2013-14.
