Winthrop Women Finish 10th Out of 11 Schools At UNCW Seahawk Classic

WALLACE, NC--The Winthrop women's golf team finished 10th out of 11 schools this weekend in the 2012 UNCW Seahawk Classic.

Winthrop opened play on Friday with a 308, but could not make up any ground during the next two rounds as they shot 311 and 312 to finish at 931 which was 65 shots behind tournament champion East Carolina which came back on Sunday to win the title by six shots over second place Old Dominion.

Eagle freshman Jennifer Dilger again led Winthrop as she tied for 19th place after finishing at 225 (74-73-78).  Senior Katie Bolling and freshman Rachel Wyatt tied for 42nd place with scores of 237.  Senior Kayla Cline was a shot back at 238 which tied her for 45th place.  Sophomore Allison Lee rounded out Winthrop's scoring with a 243 that tied her for 54th place.

Medalist honors went to Nicole Sakamoto of James Madison as she finished with a 4-under par 212 and nosed out Samantha Morrell of ODU by just one shot. 

Winthrop will take off until April 8 when it opens Big South Conference Championship tournament action in Ninety Six, SC at The Patriot at Grand Harbor.
