Bradley Downs Winthrop 80-64 Saturday After Eagles Struggle Shooting To Start Second Half

PEORIA, IL – Cold shooting to start the second half loomed large for the Winthrop women's basketball team as the Eagles fell 80-64 Saturday on the road to the Bradley Braves.

Winthrop fell to 3-4 overall as the Ealges capped off a six-game road trip.  Bradley improved its record to 5-3 on the season.

Bradley grabbed the first five points of the contest in the first two minutes, but Winthrop fought back with a 10-0 run fueled by Diana Choibekova who scored eight points in the Eagle run.

The Braves regained the lead at 14-12 with 13:20 left and increased their advantage to as much as eight points with 5:45 remaining in the first half.  Winthrop got within two with 1:23 left and trailed 32-29 at the break.

Winthrop struggled at the beginning of the second half, missing its first seven shots while Bradley went on an 8-0 run to open a 42-29 advantage.  The Eagles briefly cut the deficit down to single digits before the Braves continued their offensive push and increased their lead to as much as 17 points with 8:07 remaining.

The Eagles didn't go down quietly as they were able to cut the Bradley lead down to nine with 1:30 left, but Winthrop went scoreless the rest of the way in the loss.

Diana Choibekova led the Eagle with 18 points.  Taylor Calvert recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.  Aliyah Kilpatrick also finished in double figures with 10 points.

The Eagles will return home to the Winthrop Coliseum for the first time in four weeks when Winthrop hosts St. Augustine's University at 7 p.m. on Saturday, December 8.
