ROCK HILL, SC – Grace Radler scored two goals in the first half to lead Winthrop to a 3-0 victory in the quarterfinals of the 2012 Big South Women's Soccer Championship presented by Musco Sports Lighting Saturday evening.  The Lady Eagles will play No. 1 High Point next Friday afternoon at 4:30pm in the semifinals at Eagle Field in Rock Hill, S.C.  It is the fourth consecutive semifinal appearance for Winthrop.

Winthrop improved to 11-6-2 on the season while Coastal Carolina wrapped up its season with a record of 10-9.

“I thought we played very hard today, I was very pleased with our intensity level the whole match,” said Winthrop head coach Spencer Smith.  “It was great to see that we scored off of some set pieces, it is something that we worked hard on the last couple of weeks and it finally paid off for us.  In general, the whole team really put forth a winning effort.  When it comes down to tournament play, it is not always going to look pretty but at the end of the day you want to get the result and that is what we were able to do today.”

Winthrop's first opportunity of the night was converted by Radler in the 26th minute.  Radler was the beneficiary of a ball that bounced around in the 6-yard box off of a set piece for the Lady Eagles.  After being knocked down on the play, Radler put the ball in the back of the net while on the ground.  Moments after Krystyna Freda's one-on-one opportunity was saved by Chanticleer goalkeeper Megan Spencer, Radler nodded home her second goal of the evening from the ensuing corner kick.  Freda's in-swinging corner came to Radler in the middle of the 6 yard-box beating the goalie into the near side netting to give Winthrop a 2-0 lead in the 43rd minute.  With her two first half goals, Radler now has seven for the season.

Both team finished the half with five shots.  Freda led all players with three shots, while Jonsson led Coastal with two shots.  Henderson recorded three first half saves, while Spencer end the half with one save.

The last goal of the evening was scored by Winthrop's Ariel Kunde in the 77th minute.  It was the third goal scored from a set-piece on the evening for the Lady Eagles.  After a scrum in the box, Radler's shot attempted was turned in by Kunde for the third and final goal of the evening.  The goal was Kunde's fourth of the season.  The assist was Radler's 12th of the season and 15th of her career, which breaks Winthrop's record for all-time assists.

Grace Radler finished the game with two goals and one assist to lead the way for Winthrop.  Fia Jonsson, Kacey Kelley and Megan Wagner each had one shot on goal for the Chanticleer's in defeat.  Amelia Henderson (10-7) earned the win in goal for the Lady Eagles, Megan Spencer (9-8) was credited with the loss.  Sarah Schippers entered the game in goal for Winthrop at the beginning of the second half.
