ASHEVILLE, NC –
Devin Puckett scored a late first half goal sending Winthrop on its way to back-to-back road wins, as they knocked off UNC Asheville 3-1 Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Eagles improves to 9-6-2 overall and 6-2-2 in conference action, while UNC Asheville drops to 4-14 overall and 2-8 in Big South Conference play.

Spencer Smith. “Asheville is a quality team. Our girls hung tough in the second half and found a way to get the three points.”
Devin Puckett scored the game-winning goal in the 44
th minute when she drove in a rebound opportunity from eight yards out following a Winthrop set piece. Three minutes earlier,
Taylor Walton opened up the scoring when she latched on to a
Grace Radler cross from four yards out. The assist is the ninth of the season for Radler giving her sole possession of the Big South Conference lead in assists.
The Bulldogs put pressure on the Lady Eagles in the second half with the majority of the scoring chances. UNC Asheville attempted 13 shots in the half forcing Winthrop goalkeeper
Sarah Schippers to make six saves. The Bulldogs aggressive play cut the lead to 2-1 in the 79
th minute when Amanda Dailor headed in a corner kick from Kaitlyn Eckert.
Lia Gorden provided the last goal of the afternoon when she scored on a breakaway in the 88
th minute to give Winthrop a 3-1 lead.
Krystyna Freda's through ball put Gorden into space behind the defense for her third goal of the season.
Amelia Henderson earned her eighth win of the year in net for Winthrop as she split time with Schippers for the second consecutive game. Henderson finished the match with two saves, while Schippers ended with six. Asheville goalkeeper Heather Muller made five saves in goal for the Bulldogs. Freda led all players with five shots. Eckert and Shenny Lenhart each had three shots to lead the way for Asheville.
The Lady Eagles will return to action on Tuesday, October 23
rd, when they wrap the regular season with a 7:00 p.m. contest against the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs at Eagle Field.
