Krystyna Freda's first half game-winning goal got Winthrop off to a fast start as it set the Lady Eagles on their way to a 4-0 win over the Presbyterian Blue Hose, Thursday evening at Martin Stadium.
 
The Lady Eagles improve to 8-6-2 on the year and 5-2-2 in conference action, while Presbyterian drops to 2-14 overall and 2-7 in the Big South Conference.
 
“It was a good team performance tonight,” said head coach Spencer Smith.  ”I felt we were sharp in the first half and did a good job managing the game.”
 
Freda opened up the scoring in the 13th minute of play with her 11th goal of the season moving her into a tie with Toni Lashley of Charleston Southern for the league lead in goals.  Lia Gorden, Ariel Kunde and Allie VandeWater each scored first half goals to give Winthrop a 4-0 first half lead. 
 
Grace Radler assisted on the first three Lady Eagle goals, giving her eight assists this season.  With eight assists, Radler set a Winthrop single season record for assists and moves into a first place tie for the most assists in the Big South Conference.  Additionally, her three assists Thursday evening against Presbyterian ties a school record for the most assists in a single game.
 
After a high scoring first half, Winthrop played 24 players in the second half as it cruised to the victory.  The half was not without it moments, however, as Kylene Babauta helped keep the clean sheet intact when she headed Kelly Kozera's shot off the line in the 69th minute.  Sarah Schippers recorded one of her two saves in the 80th minute when she saved Christy Schofer's shot.
 
Schippers and Amelia Henderson split time in net for Winthrop combining for five saves.  Henderson finished the game with three totals saves while Schippers stopped two shots.  Freda led all Lady Eagles with four shots, while Tori Lopez led the Blue Hose with four shots.
 
Winthrop is back in action on Saturday, October 20th when it travels to Asheville for a 2:30 p.m. matchup with the UNC Asheville Bulldogs at the Greenwood Soccer Field.
