ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop women's soccer team prepares to honor eight seniors when it hosts league leader Radford, at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 13 at Eagle Field.
The Lady Eagles have posted a record of 7-6-1 overall and 4-2-1 entering Saturday's game. At home Winthrop is 5-1-1 this season and is coming off of a 6-1 win over VMI on Thursday.
Radford holds the all-time series lead over the Lady Eagles 5-4. Last season, in Radford, VA, the Highlanders pulled out a 1-0 overtime victory. The last time the two met in Rock Hill in 2010, Winthrop edged out Radford 1-0 on an Ann Lutzenkirchen second half goal. Four of the last five meetings have needed extra time to find a winner.
The Lady Eagles will be honoring eight seniors on Saturday.
Allie VandeWater is the most decorated of the group. VandeWater has been named to the Big South Conference First Team All-Conference on two occasions. VandeWater was also named to the 2011 Big South Conference All-Tournament team. This season, VandeWater has four assists, giving her 11 for her career and placing her second all-time at Winthrop. Sarah Schippers will also be honored. Schippers has been named Big South Defensive Player of the Week on three occasions in her career. Winthrop will also honor seniors

The Highlanders enter the contest in first place in the Big South Conference standings, with a record of 10-2-1 overall and 6-0-1 in the conference play.
Goalkeeper Che' Brown is key to the Radford defense with 49 saves and a 0.83 goals-against average this season. Brown's career 0.65 goals-against average ranks the junior first in the conference all-time in the category. Julie Ruh'e is tied with Rachel Conway for the team lead with six goals. Mary Wiley has the team lead with five assists which ranks her tied for second in the conference.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Krystyna Freda (
So., F): Freda has nine goals this season including three multi-goal games this season. Freda is coming off of her third multi-goal game of the season in the 6-1 win against VMI.
Taylor Walton (
Fr., F): Walton is tied for the team lead with five assist in her freshman campaign, which is also good enough to tie her for second in the conference. Walton brings energy and pace off the bench for the Lady Eagles.
Allie VandeWater (
Sr., MF): VandeWater has four assists this season and is a key part of the Winthrop attack from her central midfield position.
