ROCK HILL, SC—
Winners of four of its last five games, the Winthrop men's soccer team looks to continue its strong play as it takes on Campbell, Saturday evening in Buies Creek, NC in a key Big South contest for the Eagles.

The Eagles are 6-5 overall this season and are sitting at 2-1 in the league. A victory would help push them toward the upper half of the league standings as six teams currently have two wins. Campbell has lost two straight after winning five of six games, including an impressive 2-0 win at #17 North Carolina State and a 2-0 home win over Loyola (MD.).

Winthrop bounced back from its 2-1 home loss to High Point last Saturday as it turned around three days later and picked up a 2-0 road win at Presbyterian College. It was the first shutout of the season for the Eagles as Enrique Miranda recorded five saves for his ninth career shutout as he started the match in place of Tom Banfield who was out with an illness.

Junior Achille Obougou had two goals in the match Tuesday as he now has five on the season, which ties him for the team lead. He has scored four goals in the last three matches and nearly netted a hat trick in the last game vs. PC.

Of the Eagles last eight goals scored, seven of them have been scored by either Obougou or senior Alex Isern, who extended his point streak to six games after assisting on the first goal vs. PC. Isern nearly added a goal of his own, but the shot hit the crossbar, came down just in front of the line and was cleared.
Isern entered the week ranked 41st nationally in points per game with 1.44 and 15th in assists per game (0.56).

Winthrop enters the game ranked 19th in the country in goals per game at 2.10 per game and has scored at least two goals in all but two games this season and six of the last seven games. The offense is much improved over the last two seasons as the team has 23 goals in 11 games after scoring just 39 in the previous 37 games.

The Eagles defensively have started to get it together despite all the injuries to the back four having allowed four goals in the last four games after allowing 10 goals the four games prior. The only regular in the back line over the past few games has been freshman Jordi Lluch. Senior's Josh Mort and Tomas Brennan along with freshman Walker Johnson have been filling in nicely for the Eagles.

The Camels (7-4-1, 2-3 Big South) are coming off two tough losses that started at Liberty on Oct. 5 (1-0) and Wednesday night at home in a 3-1 loss to 12th-ranked Coastal Carolina. The game with Coastal was tied midway through the second half before the Chanticleers struck in the 74th minute with the eventual game-winner in the first home loss of the season for Campbell.

Campbell features an offense scoring 1.5 goals per game (1.7 per game prior to the last two matches) and is led by senior Mitchell Cardenas, who is ranked 38th in the nation in points per game at 1.45 prior to Wednesday's match. He did assist on the Camels lone goal against the Chanticleers. Cardenas leads the team with 17 points (4 goals, 9 assists). Sophomore midfielder Ricki Gaez also has four goals on the year.

Junior keeper Ethan Hall has been in net all 12 games for the Camels and has five shutouts while posting a 1.06 goals against average.
