Volleyball Continues Conference Play On Friday Against Presbyterian College

Eagles Look To Remain Undefeated In The Big South

ROCK HILL, SC –
The Winthrop volleyball team will takes its four-match winning streak on the road to Presbyterian College on Friday night at Templeton Arena for a 7 p.m. showdown.

Both Winthrop and Presbyterian College got off to a fast start in the Big South as both teams captured two wins over Charleston Southern and Coastal Carolina last weekend. This will be the fifteenth meeting between the two schools as the Eagles hold the advantage being 12-2 all-time against the Blue Hose. Last season, the teams spilt in the regular season as Presbyterian College took the match at Templeton Arena in five sets.

Winthrop comes into this weekend's match with the best hitting percentage in the conference as the offense is led by senior middle hitter Becca Toor. Toor has totaled 202 kills this season and a .348 hitting percentage. Becca also received Big South Player of the Week last week as Toor collected 38 kills and a .460 hitting percentage in the two victories over Charleston Southern and Coastal Carolina. She has garnered three conference player of the week honors in 2011. Defensively, the Eagles are led by freshman libero Catherine Brusie, who leads the team with 209 digs on the season.

The Blue Hose are also riding a three-match winning streak as they knocked off UNC Wilmington in five sets on Sunday. Presley Mabrey leads the offense for the Blue Hose this year as she has tallied 215 kills on 589 attacks this season. Defensively, PC is led by Mary Trimpe who has 222 digs on the year. Currently, PC's Ashtin Frank leads the conference in assists as she has dished out 622 this season. The Blue Hose are coached by Chris Belshe who is in his sixth year at Presbyterian College.
