ROCK HILL, SC—Winthrop's women's basketball team will be the seven seed in this week's Advance Auto Parts Big South Conference Championship, hosted by High Point University, Mar. 11-13.
The Lady Eagles finished the regular season with a 12-17 overall record and a 5-11 record in the conference, which tied for sixth. However, Winthrop lost the tie-breaker with UNC Asheville and will be the seventh seed, facing second-seeded Radford on Friday, March 11 at 5:30 p.m.
All the games are being played at the Millis Center on the campus of High Point University. Winthrop and Radford split the regular season series with each winning by double-figures on its home court. The two teams last faced each other in the Big South Tournament in 2008 in Asheville, NC with the Highlanders winning 50-44 in the semi-finals. Winthrop is 2-6 all-time against the Highlanders in postseason play, but Winthrop is 2-1 all-time against Radford in opening around games.
It will be the fourth time in school history that the Lady Eagles are the seventh seed. Winthrop was the sixth seed in 2010 and fell in overtime to the host, High Point, 68-65.

The top eight teams in the final standings qualify for the Championship. Presbyterian College is not eligible for the Women's Basketball Tournament Championship due to its transition to Division I.
