ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop volleyball team will close out its 2011 regular season on Friday when the Presbyterian College Blue Hose travel to the Winthrop Coliseum on Senior Night.
Coming into the weekend, Winthrop carries a conference best 18-7 overall record, but an 11-2 conference record which is second only to Liberty. PC is coming into this weekend riding a five-match winning streak and is 13-16 on the season and 7-6 in Big South play.
Winthrop currently leads the conference in hitting percentage as the Eagles are the only squad to hit over .200 on the season, posting a .203 mark. Leading the offense is senior middle hitter
Becca Toor who has hit for .365 this season, a mark that is leading the conference. Defensively, the Eagles got production at the net as middle blocker
Jennica Mullins tallied 14 blocks in the two victories last weekend, earning her Freshman of the Week honors in the Big South Conference. Controlling the backline this season has been freshman
Catherine Brusie as she leads the team in digs with 393 digs on the year. Sophomore setter
Stephanie Palmer has shown her versatility all season long as she is now ninth in the conference in hitting percentage with a .259 mark and leads the conference with the most double-doubles this season with 14.
Presbyterian College has moved up in the standings over the last weeks, getting key victories over Gardner-Webb and UNC Asheville last weekend. The Blue Hose are in a tie for the third position with Radford and Asheville as they all have seven wins in the conference. PC leads the conference in kills with 1,425 on the season as junior Presley Mabrey has totaled 378 kills this season. Defensively, sophomore Mary Trimpe controls the backline as she has tallied 451 digs on the season.
