ROCK HILL, SC - The Winthrop volleyball team will try to continue its winning ways as the Eagles will remain on the road this weekend, facing Gardner-Webb on Friday evening and UNC Asheville on Saturday afternoon.
Winthrop enters play this weekend with a 10-5 overall record and a 3-0 mark in the conference. The Eagles sit on top of the conference along with Liberty, who also holds a 3-0 mark in the Big South.
Winthrop is paced offensively by senior middle hitter
Becca Toor, who ranks 47th in the nation in hitting percentage with a .357 average and leads the conference in that category as well as in kills with 217. As a team, the Eagles also lead the league in hitting percentage at .251, kills per match with 14.5, 12.70 assists per match, and 18.8 digs per match. Defensively, Winthrop is led freshman libero

Winthrop will be facing Gardner-Webb for the 17th time in the program's history, with the Eagles holding a 15-1 all-time advantage against the Runnin' Bulldogs. Last season, Winthrop brought down Gardner-Webb both times the teams met, including a five-set win in Boiling Springs. The Runnin' Bulldogs enter the match with a 4-13 record overall and a 0-3 record in the conference. GWU is led offensively Laura Wilcox and Tyler Cockrell who have 147 and 141 kills respectively. Defensively, Gardner-Webb looks to Evan Moffitt who has tallied 294 digs this season.
On Saturday, head coach Julie Torbett makes her first return to UNC Asheville, where she coached for 17 seasons and recorded the most wins of any head coach in conference history. Winthrop holds the advantage over Asheville all-time, as the Eagles are 34-22 against the Bulldogs. Asheville is currently 9-7 this season and has a 2-1 mark in the conference. The Bulldogs are now under the direction of head coach Frederico Santos, and are led by Cindi Miller who has posted 210 kills this season. Alex Stewart leads the defense with 257 digs on the year.
