NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – Senior
Becca Toor paced the Eagles with 17 kills as the Winthrop volleyball team made three straight victories bringing down the Charleston Southern Buccaneers in straight sets (25-17, 25-11, 25-19) Saturday night at the CSU Fieldhouse.
The win brings the Eagles at 16-7 on the season and 9-2 in the Big South, as CSU falls to 5-22 on the year and 1-10 in the conference.
Toor's 17 kills and .714 hitting percentage led the Eagles as sophomore setter
Stephanie Palmer followed Toor with nine kills and a .467 hitting percentage. Palmer also dished out 28 of Winthrop's 38 assists. As a team, the Eagles hit for .409 and found the floor with 44 kills. Defensively, Winthrop finished the match with 38 digs and nine blocks. Leading in the digs category was junior defensive specialist

Jennica Mullins found success at the net as she tallied one block solo and three block assists.
“We hit .409 as a team and Becca was unstoppable recording a .714 hitting percentage,” head coach Julie Torbett said. “We had nine blocks as a team but most importantly we won on the court we will have to win on to take the Big South Conference Championship in a few weeks.”
Winthrop set the tone in the first set, scoring the first four points of the set. Behind Toor's .800 hitting percentage for the set, the Eagles cruised to win 25-17. As a team, Winthrop finished the set with a .321 hitting percentage on 12 kills.
The Eagles got off to another quick start in the second set, taking a commanding lead at the 10-3 mark. Winthrop continued its offensive production as the Eagles 15 kills and a .520 hitting percentage for the set. Winthrop rolled in the second set, 25-11. For the set, Toor led the offense with eight kills in the set.
The final set started in favor of Charleston Southern as the Bucs took a lead at the 8-6 mark. The Eagles bounced back in the set, taking back the lead, 13-10. Winthrop controlled the rest of the set as the Eagles finished with 17 kills and a .400 hitting percentage, taking the set and the match, 25-19.
Charleston Southern was led offensively by Wynter Davis with seven kills and defensively by Amy Nokes with eight digs.
Winthrop will return home next weekend as the Eagles will play host to UNC Asheville on Friday, Nov. 4. That match is set for 7 p.m.
