Volleyball Hits The Road For Final Regular Season Road Trip

Eagles Will Face Coastal On Friday At 7 p.m. And Charleston Southern On Saturday At 6 p.m.

The Winthrop volleyball team will look to continue its winning ways as the Eagles head towards the coast to the take on Coastal Carolina on Friday and Charleston Southern on Saturday.

Winthrop heads into the weekend carrying a 14-7 overall record and a 7-2 mark in the conference.

The Eagles are lead by senior middle hitter Becca Toor as she reached her 300th kill for the season on Saturday afternoon against Radford. Toor's .350 hitting percentage ranks second in the conference. Defensively, Winthrop is led defensively by freshman libero Catherine Brusie who is fourth in the conference with 342 digs on the season. Her 4.02 digs per set average ranks seventh within the conference.

Coastal Carolina holds a 10-16 record on the season and a 3-6 conference record. Coastal's Katie Martin was named the Crons Brand Freshman of the Week last week as she finished the weekend with 19 kills and a .342 hitting percentage. Martin is currently eighth in the conference in hitting percentage with a .258 mark. The Chanticleer defense is paced by Lindsay Gill who has posted 347 digs. In Winthrop and Coastal's last meeting in September, the Eagles brought down Coastal in straight sets.

Charleston Southern is currently 5-20 on the year and 1-8 in the Big South. The last time Winthrop and the Buccaneers met was on Sept. 23 and the Eagles came away with a 3-1 victory. Defensively, the Bucs are led by Ashley Higginbothem who has posted 354 digs on the season, as the offense is paced by Kayla Klinger with 172 kills.
