Volleyball Continues Conference Road Trip To Campbell And High Point This Weekend

Winthrop Will Face Campbell At 7 p.m. On Friday And High Point At 4:30 p.m. On Saturday

ROCK HILL, SC – After splitting two matches last weekend, the Winthrop volleyball team looks to remain on top of the Big South Conference this weekend when the Eagles travel to Campbell on Friday, and High Point on Saturday.

The Eagles enter the weekend with an 11-6 record on the season and a 4-1 mark in the conference. Winthrop is currently tied with Liberty for the top spot of the conference entering play this weekend. Campbell is 9-12 on the year and has recorded a 2-3 record in the Big South, as High Point is 5-14 overall and 3-2 in the conference this season.

Last weekend, the Eagles dropped its first match to Gardner-Webb in four set on Friday, then nabbed a win over UNC Asheville on Saturday. Winthrop was led last weekend by the defensive play of freshman libero Catherine Brusie who tallied 46 digs in those two matches, including a 31-dig match against Gardner-Webb. Those 31 digs tied a school record that former Eagles libero Kelsey Harrison set in 2010 against UNC Asheville. Offensively, Winthrop is paced by senior middle hitter Becca Toor who leads the conference in kills with 242 and holds the best hitting percentage in the conference at .347.

Campbell dropped both matches last weekend and currently sits in sixth place of the conference, along with Radford. Winthrop holds the advantage over the Camels all-time, leading the series 11-6. The Camels are under the direction of Leigh Mullins who is in her fourth season. Campbell is led offensively by junior outside hitter Jordan Reaves with 190 kills as Kelsey Campbell leads the defense with 234 digs on the season.

High Point enters the weekend with a 5-14 overall record and a 3-2 mark in the Big South this season. HPU got its first conference win last weekend as the Panthers took down Radford in five sets. Winthrop holds the advantage all-time against HPU, as the Eagles are 34-11 against the Panthers. High Point is coached by Jason Oliver who is in his second season at the school. This season, the Panthers are led offensively by Courtney Johnk who has recorded 187 kills this season. Defensively, High Point is led by Breanna Holliday who has totaled 260 digs on the year.
