ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop volleyball team will close out its stretch of pre-conference invitational tournaments as they travel to Statesboro, GA for the SpringHill Suites Invitational, hosted by Georgia Southern University.

The Eagles will open up the tournament with two games on Friday. The first match at Hanner Fieldhouse will be against the South Alabama Jaguars (5-6) at 10 a.m., and then Winthrop will be taking on the host, Georgia Southern (4-6), at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the Eagles will take on the East Tennessee State Buccaneers (6-4) at 5 p.m. 

Winthrop enters the tournament at 2-7, but looks to improve on the record this weekend. The Eagles fell in all three of its matches at the Kansas Invitational over the weekend, which included a match again nationally ranked Northern Iowa.

The Eagles currently sit at the top of the Big South Conference in digs with 564 and blocks per set with 2.22. Junior middle hitter Becca Toor is second in the conference in hitting percentage with .305. Senior outside hitter Kaley Viola leads the Eagles in kills with 112 and is currently second on the team with 121 digs. Senior setter Kelsey Hall has compiled 314 assists on the young season which puts her 845 assists away from moving into second place in school history.

Winthrop returns to the coliseum on Sept 24 as the Eagles open up their Big South schedule against High Point at 7 p.m.
