Winthrop Women's Tennis Team Is 64th In Final 2010 ITA Ranking

ROCK HILL, SC--The Winthrop women's tennis team, which captured its third straight Big South Conference championship last season and advanced to the NCAA regionals, has been ranked 64th in the nation among Division I schools by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

The Eagles finished the season with a 16-9 overall record after going 6-1 in the regular season conference race. Winthrop faced the No. 13 seed and tournament host Tennessee in the Knoxville Regional. 

In addition to the No. 64 national ranking, Winthrop was ranked 6th by ITA in the final Women's Carolina Rankings behind North Carolina, Duke, Clemson, NC State and Wake Forest.

Winthrop will return five of its top six players next season as it aims for a 10th NCAA tournament berth. The Eagles will open the 2011 season in the  ITA Division I Kick-Off Weekend, Jan. 29-30, which will be held at 15 regional sites. Winthrop is one of 60 teams from across the country that will participate in the inaugural event.
