ROCK HILL, SC--Winthrop is riding a three-game win streak heading into tonight's match-up with a Colorado State squad that has won two straight, including a 69-53 win at Western Carolina on Tuesday. The Lady Eagles posted a season-high 93 points in the win on Tuesday over Southern Wesleyan, as
Lacey Lyons hit seven threes on her way to a 24-point performance.
Winthrop is 5-6 and will look to even its record before getting into Big South Conference action next week.
In its last five games, Winthrop is 3-2 and is holding opponents to 49.8 points per game.
Dequesha McClanahan did not start on Tuesday, but came off the bench to score 17 points for the third straight game.
Sophomore
Mary Hathaway got the start at point guard instead and nearly posted a triple double. The 6-0 guard had 12 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists.
Turning in a good performance on Tuesday was key for the Lady Eagles as they have not performed well at home all season. Winthrop shot 55 percent from the floor against the Warriors, which was the first game at home Winthrop had shot over 36 percent. McClanahan was 4-for-50 at home before she hit 6-for-13 on Tuesday.
Defense will be a key in tonight's game for Winthrop as it faces a Colorado State team averaging 66.1 points per game and 68.5 in the last two games. The Rams are averaging 58.8 points per game on the road, but scored 69 in the win on Tuesday at Western Carolina.
Junior Kim Mestdagh leads the way for CSU with 18.5 points per game and is second on the team with 33 assists. She's shooting 44 percent from the floor and 42 percent from three (38-for-90). The 5-10 guard/forward is also 39-for-45 at the line and is one of the top rebounders on the team. In 2009-10 she was a Second Team All-Mountain West Selection.
Sam Martin is averaging 13.4 points while shooting 57 percent from the floor and leads the team with 13 blocks. The 6-2 freshman scored a team-high 20 points in the win over Western Carolina.
Chatilla van Grinsven also averages double-figures at 12.8 a game. She came off the bench to score 16 in Tuesday's win.
