ROCK HILL, SC—An 11-0 run to start the second half propelled visiting Lander to a 70-40 victory over Winthrop, Saturday afternoon in women's basketball action.

With the loss, Winthrop falls to 1-4 on the year while Lander, ranked third in the USA Today/ESPN Division II Coaches Poll, improves to a perfect 6-0.

After trailing by double-figures in the first half, Winthrop cut the lead to four points with just over three minutes to play after back-to-back fast break lay-ups from freshman Tiffany Charles. However, Lander finished the half on a 6-0 run, which was capped off by a Jasmine Judge before time expired, for a 27-17 lead at the break.

The lead turned into 21 points after the run to open the second half behind a three-point play from Shannon McKever and another trey from Judge.

The Lady Eagles didn't quit and battled their way back to 40-26 after Dee Gray scored four straight points. After Charles hit a jumper in the lane to cut the lead to 17 points with 8:57 remaining, Winthrop went cold from the field and the Bearcats continued to force turnovers.

Winthrop finished the game shooting 27 percent from the floor while Lander finished at 40 percent. Winthrop committed 24 turnovers which Lander took advantage for 31 points on the other end.

Ashley Cox led Winthrop with 10 points while Charles added nine and Gray finished with eight.

Lander's McKever led all scorers with 26 points as well as eight rebounds and six blocks. Judge finished with 18 points on 6-of-18 shooting, all from behind the three-point arc.

The Lady Eagles will be back in action on Thursday, Dec. 2 when they travel to Durham, NC to take on North Carolina Central at 6 p.m.
