Women’s Soccer Entertains Coastal Carolina In Regular Season Finale

Eagles And Chanticleers Will Battle With First Place On The Line

ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop women's soccer team will finish its regular season tomorrow night with a 5:30 p.m. showdown against the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers at Eagle Field.

It will be Senior Night as the Eagles will honor Katie Perkinson, Tricia Vensel, Kyrie Weant, Ann Lutzenkirchen, Lindsay Taylor, Andrea McMaster and Tiana Tallant prior to the contest. It will be the final home game for all seven players.

The Eagles (6-8-2, 6-1-1) enter their regular season finale riding a five-game winning streak and are unbeaten in the last six, all of which are school records.

Junior forward Courtney Durbin, with her game-winning goal against Charleston Southern on Oct. 27, has a team-high six goals on the season and also leads the team with 14 points. Vensel and sophomore midfielder Allie VandeWater are tied for the team-lead with four assists each, while Vensel is second on the team with 10 points and VandeWater is third with eight.

Redshirt-junior Kelsy Weavil has seen her goals against average decrease over the last several matches and now posts a GAA of 0.97 on just 11 goals allowed. She has grabbed 48 saves on the year for a .814 save percentage. She has picked up all four of her shutouts over the last five matches, and combined with sophomore Sarah Schippers with a shutout in the other contest.

The Chanticleers (9-7-2, 5-2-1) are led by first-year coach Tammy DeCesare who previously spent the last five seasons at the helm of the Western Carolina women's soccer program where she compiled a 58-36-13 overall record. Anna Tupy leads Coastal Carolina offensively with five goals, three assists, 13 points, 39 shots and 22 shots on-goal for the season. Goalkeepers Amy Haggard and Jessica Barton have been the primary players in net for the Chanticleers this season. Haggard has played in nine games and has allowed only four goals (0.51 GAA) and snagged 22 saves for a save percentage of .846. Barton (12 games played) posts a 1.94 goals against average (20 goals allowed) and 47 saves for a .701 save percentage. Haggard has recorded three shutouts on the season, while Barton boasts one shutout.

Coastal Carolina leads the all-time series 5-3 over Winthrop, while the series is tied 2-2 in Rock Hill. The Chanticleers defeated the Eagles 1-0 in the series finale last season in Conway.
