Revivo Scores Three Goals For Team Canada At Summer Universiade Games In Serbia (7-13-09)

Revivo Nets Game-Winning Goal In Win Over Morocco

ROCK HILL, SC—Former Winthrop men’s soccer standout Daniel Revivo had an impressive performance for Canada over the last two weeks at the 25th Summer Universiade held in Belgrade, Serbia.

The 2008 Big South Conference Player of the Year and Winthrop’s all-time Division I leading scorer tallied two of Canada’s three goals in three matches during pool play as the team went 1-2. Revivo began the tournament with the only goal of the match in leading Canada to a 1-0 victory over Morocco. Canada lost its next two games 3-1 to the Czech Republic (group winner) and 2-1 to Ukraine. It was against Ukraine in which Revivo netted his second goal.

Canada did participate in the consolation round in which it defeated Ireland 1-0, lost to Brazil, 3-1, and finished 12th overall after a 3-2 loss to Uruguay. In the loss to Uruguay, Revivo scored his third goal is six games. Canada finished with a 2-4 record.

The Summer Universiade is an international multi-sport event that takes place every two years, and is second only to the Olympic Games in the number of participating athletes and countries. The Universiade is open to competitors between the ages of 17 and 28 in the year of the Games who are full-time students at a post-secondary institution (university, college, CEGEP) or have graduated from a post-secondary institution in the year preceding the event.
