ROCK HILL, SC -- Former Winthrop pitcher Chris Leroux made his major league debut for the Florida Marlins on May 26 against the Philadelphia Phillies in Philadelphia, PA.
He allowed one run on three hits, no walks and no strikeouts in 2.0 innings of work. The Phillies defeated the Marlins 5-3 at Citizens Bank Park.
Leroux came to Winthrop from St. Joseph High School in Mississauga, Ontario after being drafted by the then-Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the ninth round as a catcher.
In his three seasons as an Eagle, Leroux compiled a 3-3 record on the mound with a career-best 3.41 ERA in 2004. He made four appearances as a freshman in 2003 posting a 10.12 ERA before going 1-3 in 19 appearances during the 2004 season. Leroux went 2-0 with a 3.70 ERA in 2005 before being lost for the season with an injury.
