Kingsmore Named To ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America FIrst Team (5-29-09)

Kingsmore Named Academic All-America For Third Straight Year

ROCK HILL, SCFor the third straight season, Winthrop softball standout Lisa Kingsmore has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as the teams were announced on Thursday.

 

Kingsmore was named to the first team for the second straight and was one of four to repeat on the first team. In 2007 she was named to the second team.

 

The 2008 and 2009 Big South Conference Player of the Year had a huge season as she set the school record with a .458 batting average. She broke her own record that was set in 2008 (.446). Kingsmore set career-highs with nine home runs and 37 RBI.

 

The Brampton, Ontario native finished her academic career with a 3.98 grade point average and graduated with a degree in Chemistry.

 

Just a few weeks ago Kingsmore was named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I First Team All-Region for the second straight year and it was her third selection overall. In 2008 she was named to the NFCA All-America Second Team.

 

Kingsmore is currently on a one year contract working for the Ontario Provincial Government Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services. "I am specifically working in the Justice Technology Services Information Management and Planning branch which aims at providing information and information technology to the Ministry of the Attorney General and Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services," Kingsmore explained. "We work to provide IT infrastructure and create innovative solutions to establish a modern, efficient and effective justice system in Ontario. I am working for a year and then I am going to graduate school. I am not exactly sure what program I want to study but I am interested in getting my Master's Degree or PHD in Food Microbiology.

 

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
