CHARLOTTE, NC-- Winthrop freshman Baylee Strachan (pronounced Straw-un) has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Freshman of the Week for her performances last week against Charleston Southern and Radford.
For Strachan, this is her second Freshman of the Week award. A middle hitter from Sioux City, Iowa, Strachan put away 18 kills, averaged 3.0 kills per set and posted a .343 kill percentage to help Winthrop to two Big South wins last week. In the Eagles win over Charleston Southern, Strachan found the floor for 11 kills and a .444 hitting attack percentage. She also added four blocks and two digs against the Lady Bucs. She finished her week with seven kills as well as three blocks and three digs in Winthrop’s 3-1 over Radford.
Also nominated for volleyball Player of the Week for Week 6 was Winthrop senior right side hitter Kelley Taylor while junior libero Ginnie Talley was nominated for Defensive Player of the Week.
